This summer had artists dropping albums like wildfire. Whether you are a fan of rap, pop, country, or you prefer to listen to something else, people are well aware of all of the new music being released. From Drake to Arianna Grande and of course, Travis Scott, fans are going crazy. Scott has had a wild year this year, including the birth of his first child, Stormi Webster, and the release of his long-anticipated album, ASTROWORLD.
ASTROWORLD came out about two years after Travis’s second album, “Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight” was released, and the hype is real. ASTROWORLD features 17 songs and notably features many well respected and loved artists like Drake, Post Malone, Nav, Swae Lee, Frank Ocean, the Weekend, Pharrell Williams, and more. There was no lack of hype around the album, with Scott releasing a nine day merch drop and placing huge golden heads around the globe.
Drake held the highest rankings with his newly released album, “Scorpion,” for about five weeks, but after this release, Scott surpassed Drake and took over the top charts. One of the top contenders being “SICKO MODE,” which ironically enough, features Drake in most of the song.
Listening to the album for the first time, I was immediately hooked. The first song on the album, “Stargazing,” is one of my personal favorites, as it has a unique tone and a sort of psychedelic beat that is very engaging. After listening through the album a few more times, I also grew to love the song “Yosemite.” The reason I like this song so much is that it shocked me for Scott. With its slower beat and more melodic tune, the song is unlike the rest of the songs on the album and quite frankly, different from Scotts typical tune. And, of course, I love listening to “Sicko Mode,” just like many other fans do. Not only does it feature Drake, but the song is also unpredictable in the most unexpected and fun ways. Drake starts out the song and takes the stage for about a minute until Travis comes in and completely flips the switch and changes the whole tune of the song. Just when you thought the song was over, Drake comes back in to join Scott to close it out. I have no doubt we’ll be hearing this song on repeat at The Boot.
ASTROWORLD has fans talking; with its array of guest artists and fresh new beats, it’s no wonder the album has been doing so well. If you haven’t already given it a listen, check it out!
