Music is central to our connection to other people and everyday life. We hear it when we are in the car, eating at a restaurant, or even working out. Listening to music not only gives people an outlet for emotional release but also brings people together. Every day it seems as though music is being made out of everything (even the yodeling kid at Walmart). Today, I am going to talk about a very special, uprising artist, with amazing music to share with the world. Her name Is Billie Eilish.

Growing up in Los Angeles, CA has many perks, and for Eilish, being surrounded by the entertainment world was just the thing to start her career. Growing up with parents and siblings in the entertainment world, Eilish was next to follow in their footsteps. At just 16 years old, Eilish has grown a massive following. Now, don’t be fooled by her age. Her music isn’t typical “high-school” or young teen melodrama lyrics. On the contrary, they are complex, unique and very thoughtful.

Her first song, “Ocean Eyes” was written in October of 2015 when she was just 14 years old, and the profound lyrics speak to what many people may feel when falling in love for the first time. The song was posted to SoundCloud and shortly after, the song was being listened to and adored by millions of people.

What makes Eilish’s music so special is the electric pop mixed with the contrast of her light and airy voice, leaving the lyrics to tell a story and giving the listener an artist who is unique in the music scene. Because she adds her own personality to her music, she is an icon for many young people. Since she is so young, many of her fans are around their early to late teen years, but, with her rise in fame, her fan base has begun to grow to a larger audience.

In 2017, following the success of “Ocean Eyes”, Eilish released her first EP, Don’t Smile at Me. Since the release, she has received an enormous amount of praise and has released tour dates for this upcoming year.
