Justin Meyer: recent Berklee grad, now based in the glamourous New York City, and one of my oldest friends. A real renaissance man if you ask me. But on top of all of the roles he juggles, he is also a talented producer and musician. His most recent accomplishment? Lonely Rock Star, his six-song EP that was released on November 11th.
Since 2019, Justin has put out a consistent stream of music while simultaniously being enrolled in school. Most notably, his first full length album, METANOIA, came out in August of last year and showed listeners not only his flawless production style but also his songwriting strength. Justin’s music has grown tremendously over the years, and this notably shows through his growth within the production aspect of his songs. Justin recently graduated from the Berklee College of Music and is now based in New York City where he works at the prestigious Kensaltown East studio as a sound engineer.
This EP isn’t a total surprise, however, as listeners have gotten sneak peeks at several songs leading up to its release. Flood Lights, a single that was put out earlier this year appears as track five, and a previous single, ‘til the Love Runs Cold, is track two. But fear not, there are plenty of new tracks to sink your teeth into and subsequently play on repeat.

My personal favorite song off the EP is track six, Used to Be Lonely, an instrument-heavy piece that showcases a new side Justin’s vocal style. So often, his songs sound virtually flawless and clean, which includes his self recorded voice, but this song allows for a more gritty tone to come through. While for others this could result in a messy track, Justin somehow pulls it off once again, never sacrificing quality for an experimental song. Used to Be Lonely is catchy, interesting, and overall, a wonderful showcase of Justin’s talents.
While this EP will be Justin’s last musical release of 2022, I am certain that there will be more releases in the coming months and years that continue to give us a look inside his talented mind. Justin’s musical career has just begun, but I see it continuing into the far future.
