When I’m running out of my dorm room late to class, the shoes I throw on are usually an afterthought. Often, when I get to class, I look down, only to realize that despite managing to find the time to pick out a cute outfit, I’m in the same plain Air Force 1s I’ve been in all week, and when I glance around me, I notice dozens of other white sneaker clad feet. However, thanks to this season’s fresh but wearable shoe trends, you can easily make your shoes a memorable part of your everyday wardrobe, even when running from class to class all day. Here are a couple standout shoe trends that will transition effortlessly from spring to summer:

1. White Boots

Swap out your wintery, darker hued boots for a more summery white pair—just make sure it’s not raining in New Orleans first! While rocking a pair of the sky high white booties favored by fashion influencers might be impractical for a long day of classes, a pair of flat white boots will keep you equally comfortable and stylish all day long. Wear them just like a pair of white sneakers with any look—from boyfriend jeans and a t-shirt to a mini dress or cutoff shorts, now that New Orleans is starting to heat up. For a western take on the trend, try a pair of white cowboy boots. For an edgy yet durable approach, try a pair of white platform Doc Martens.

 2. “Ugly” Sandals

As summer approaches, instead of throwing on a pair of flip flops for class, try wearing a pair of chunky “tourist” style platform sandals. While the idea of running from class to class in flatforms may sound daunting, most sportier, “ugly” sandals offer smaller platforms and extra straps to help them stay secure. Though highly controversial in the fashion world, many designers including Gucci and Chanel offer chunky, strappy sandals, and many Fashion Week attendees have been spotted in the look. Be bold and pair a casual dress with a pair of white Teva Flatforms or graphic Fila sandals.

3. Animal Print

Take a walk on the wild side with a pair of animal print shoes! Animal print is easily one of the biggest trends of 2018 and 2019, and this spring, many influencers—and even Anna Wintour—have been spotted rocking animal print shoes. Because brands have been offering shoe styles ranging from sneakers, to sandals, to boots in essentially every animal print possible, including leopard, snakeskin, cow, crocodile, it’s easy to find a pair that suits you. Wearing shoes in a fun print will make even the simplest outfit for class more interesting. Pair leopard Air Maxes with a jean skirt or cut offs, or dress up a pair of distressed jeans with flat snakeskin mules.

4. Color Blocked Chunky Sneakers

On the days where you’re running late for class and can’t imagine sacrificing comfort for style, try a pair of chunky color blocked sneakers. With athleisure being as popular as ever right now, and designers including Prada, Chanel, and Balenciaga offering their own takes on this trend, a pair of color blocked sneakers will instantly make any outfit more stylish. Replace your plain white Filas or Air Force 1s with a pair of color blocked Adidas Falcons or pair of Champions. A pair of chunky color blocked sneakers will make the joggers or leggings you throw on for your 8 am more exciting, or pair them with a dainty sundress to create contrast.

Thanks to spring’s shoe trends, you’ll be comfortable and stylish from head to toe!
