Does the NOLA heat have your makeup melting off your face? Do you come home after going out looking like you just went swimming with all your makeup on? If you answered yes to either of these questions, then you need to hear these five sweat-proof makeup tips.

1. Waterproof Mascara

This is the most essential sweat proof makeup item. Mascara is the first thing to run down your face when you sweat or when alcohol gets thrown on you, which let’s face it, could happen. Waterproof mascara will stick to your eyelashes until you decide to remove it, not your sweat or the champagne shower at a tailgate. My personal favorite is the Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara.

2. Waterproof Foundation

Next to mascara, your foundation is another product that doesn’t do too well in a fight against liquid. Investing in a waterproof foundation will save you the embarrassment of looking like a streaky mess. Some great options are the MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation, Smashbox Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Hydrating Foundation (which you can charge to accounts receivable at the bookstore…), and, for a more affordable option, the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro Matte Foundation.

3. Waterproof Eyebrow Gel

If you don’t fill in your eyebrows, then you can skip to #5. However, for those of you that know the struggle of your eyebrows somehow missing when you come home from going out, this one’s for you. The NYX Eyebrow Gel is like a colored superglue for your brows. It has a lightweight, waterproof formula that will withstand the random NOLA downpours and make people think you woke up with Cara Delevingne brows.

4. The ‘Baking’ Method

For those of you that have never heard of baking (and no, not the kind where you make cookies) you need to hear this. The technique of “baking your face” is used by drag queens to glue their foundation and concealer to their face to withstand the harsh stage lights and heat. Essentially, just slap a bunch of loose powder on the areas you don’t want your foundation or concealer to move, let it sit or “bake” on your face for a few minutes, then wipe it away. This will ensure your makeup stays on your face all day and night. A great and affordable loose powder is the NYC Smooth Skin translucent powder.

5. Makeup Setting Spray

Saving the best for last, makeup setting spray is not only essential to waterproof your makeup, but also to make it last longer. A personal favorite is the Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray. As the title hints, your makeup will not only become waterproof, but will last for up to 16 hours. Take it from someone who frequently falls asleep in their makeup: when I wear this setting spray, I wake up looking the same as when I went to sleep.
