Halloween is a difficult time as a college student. Finding a Halloween costume that’s not too complicated or too basic can be tough. Luckily, I’ve come up with six unique and relatively simple makeup ideas to help you recreate some unique looks.
- Kesha Then/Now
Kesha made a huge comeback in 2017 with her album Rainbow, inspiring many through her lyrics but also through her wild style. Try using Kesha’s iconic makeup styles, past or present, for your costume this year!

2. Pennywise the Clown
The character from the new movie IT is one of the biggest inspirations for Halloween costumes this year. If you don’t feel like purchasing the full costume, try recreating his makeup look like I did instead!

3. Mermaid
Although mermaid makeup isn’t a new trend, it’s still timeless. Not to mention that the fishnet ‘scales’ technique can be used for any creature with a scale-like texture: snakes, lizards, or even birds if you use larger fishnets. You could also stick gems on your face to replicate scales!

4. Skeleton Reinvented
Skeleton costumes have always been trendy, but take a twist on the simple costume with a skeleton face mask, classic or electric.

5. Wonder Woman
With the release of Wonder Woman this past summer, it seems fitting to pay tribute to the movie but also to all the badass women out there in general. Try this pop art Wonder Woman for a creative twist!

6. Your fave filter
Snapchat filters, especially the dancing hot dog, have dominated the social media scene recently. If you’re struggling to come up with a creative costume, just throw on a simple outfit, or a hot dog suit if you have one, and paint your face to look like a snapchat filter!
