There is nothing quite like New Orleans in the fall. The leaves begin to change, the mansions on St. Charles are decked out with Halloween decorations, and you can finally put on a light sweater. As summer fades into the past, autumn makes room for the best fashion moments the year has to offer. Whether you’re showing off a new jacket or lacing up a chic pair of boots, it’s still warm enough to wear all your cutest clothes without worrying about scarves or mittens. Here are my recommendations for what you should be wearing this fall.

When I can’t seem to pick out an outfit and half my closet is scattered all over my room, I try and decide on one piece that I can center everything else around. For me, this piece is usually a unique statement boot. From cowboy boots with a unique design to vintage stiletto boots, the options are truly endless. A fun boot can effortlessly elevate any fall outfit. If you struggle to wear a heeled boot for more than a couple of hours, consider the Jazmin boot from Dolce Vita. Available in black cherry leather, black leather, chocolate leather, and espresso suede, these knee-high heeled boots are priced at $260.

I constantly find myself walking out my front door and having to walk right back inside to grab a light sweater. To avoid another 15 minutes of reevaluating my entire outfit to make sure my jacket matches, I try to accumulate sweaters, jackets, and coats that I could throw on over just about anything. A new favorite of mine is the Frankie’s Bikinis Cyprus Cloud Cable Knit Top in both Winter Skies and Pink Gem ($130). Whether you wear it alone as a top or over a light tee, the cable knit pattern screams fall and the elongated sleeves are perfect for layering. Another instant staple is the Soren Sheer Alpaca Sweater Top from Reformation. Priced at $198, this lightweight piece comes in the core colors Black, Barley, and Thunder; and seasonal colors Granite Space Dye and Dream.

Similar to focusing one outfit around a pair of shoes, a purse, or a jacket, sometimes coming up with an outfit feels easiest when I decide on a color scheme. This fall, I’ve been loving a combination of brown and blue. The two colors complement each other and look elevated on everyone. Here are some inspo pics for pairing a classic autumn brown with a fun pop of blue:
