If you’ve ever wondered if that certain someone in your class (you know the one 😉) is interested in you, you’ve come to the right place! It can be challenging to detect just how much someone likes you, or if there is any real attraction at all. Lucky for you, there are many psychological cues to look out for when interacting with your potential love interest, and here are a few:
- Mirroring
Body language is always a strong indicator of someone’s attraction towards you. Funny enough, studies have shown that when we are into someone, we often subconsciously mimic their behavior and mannerisms. If you check your watch for the time, do they do the same? If you take a sip of a drink, do they reach for their water bottle?
If you start to notice your love interest using vocabulary that you tend to use, matching the rhythm or volume of your voice, or copying your facial expressions and hand gestures, they may be interested in you! Remember, mirroring is a two-way street, and you can just as easily mirror someone to catch their attention and create a stronger bond.

- Body Orientation
Similarly to body language, the way someone positions themselves may be more telling than you think! Chances are, someone who is interested in you will orientate themselves to ensure that their torso or chest is turned in your direction at all times. Strangely, the position of someone’s feet is also telling of their attraction to you. Test this theory out, and pay close attention to whether your love interest’s feet are pointed at you, or if they are leaning in your direction, even if they are in conversation with someone else.
- Removing Barriers
Concentrating on the small details of your interaction with your crush may help you in the long run. If they are constantly removing ‘barriers’, like a pillow or bag that may be between you two, this is a good sign! People like to be close to those who they are interested in, just as they prefer to keep their distance from the people they dislike. Take special notice of your love interest’s tendency to remove or place things between you two when you are together.

- The Flash
People always say the eyes are the window to the soul, but what about eyebrows? “The Flash” pertains to the slight and quick eyebrow raise that indicates one’s interest for another. This subconscious action occurs with a release of dopamine, the neurotransmitter responsible for pleasure and fulfillment. Eyebrow movement may be a sign that your crush is comfortable around you, or feels excitement and attraction when you’re in their presence. Although it can be hard to track one’s eyebrow movement, this is still something to consider while crossing paths with or talking to your crush.
- Pupil Dilation
Finally, and maybe the most common way of telling whether your love interest is attracted to you, is pupil dilation. Hormones such as oxytocin and dopamine increase when someone experiences romantic sensations, which ultimately causes pupil dilation. Next time you are conversing with your crush, look deep into their eyes and hopefully their pupils have dilated!
