One of my favorite ways to spend my Sundays is curled up with a cup of coffee and a good book. When you spend most of your time in the library studying for midterms, it’s easy to forget just how great it can be to be completely encompassed by books that aren’t textbooks, so here are some bookstores around New Orleans that will awaken and feed your inner bookworm.
1. Blue Cypress Books

Just a 15-minute walk from campus, this used bookstore has books of all genres at great prices. Plus, it’s just around the corner from Rue De La Course, so once you pick out the perfect book, you can grab a coffee and read your afternoon away.
2. Octavia Books

This independent bookstore is located just beyond magazine street, and offers not only an immense selection of books, but frequent author signings as well. Also, the store has an outdoor patio, which makes it the perfect spot to sit back and enjoy a new read.
3. Garden District Book Shop

This shop resides in an historic property known as the Rink, deep within the beautiful Garden District. Built in 1884, the Rink was originally a roller skating rink, but has since housed a livery stable, a grocery store, a gas station, and even a mortuary. How’s that for character?

If you’re looking to be truly surrounded by literature, this is the perfect place for you. As you walk through this cozy store, you’ll find stacks upon stacks of books, with more titles than you could dream of sorting through. If you’re looking for books on New Orleans, they have it all, from books on hauntings, to cookbooks, to history.
5. Dauphine Street Books

Another great option for people who are looking to lose themselves in the shelves of books. With a large collection of all sorts of books and a friendly staff willing to help you find whatever it is you’re looking for, you can’t go wrong with this French Quarter shop.
