Chances are, the majority of you all reading this are more than familiar with the Kardashian family. Whether you love them, hate them, or are just intrigued about who exactly they are (just like I am), we all stay up to date with their business ventures, and lives in general. Recently, Kourtney Kardashian has been advocating to remove harmful chemicals and materials from makeup we all most likely use on a daily basis.

With just a quick Google search, you can find some of the terrifying ingredients that can be found in the products we use. An article written on this beauty website lists all the potentially dangerous chemicals found in your makeup. Some of them are parabens, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, and lead, all which have links back to reproductive issues, can cause various forms of cancer, and interact with your neurological functions. These are only a few of the many chemicals and frightening side effects listed that the government has chosen to ignore in the production of beauty products.

Enter Kourtney Kardashian, one of the most infamous and some would say influential people among our generation. By utilizing her enormous social media following to spread the message, Kardashian talked to her followers not only about her work to better regulate the beauty industry, but her trip to Congress in order to lobby for change on the issue. She also discussed Environmental Working Group, a group who has been advocating since the early 90’s for all types of regulations, some being in the makeup industry. Kardashian is partnering with them to create change on a national level.

Whether you like Kourtney and her constant use of social media or not, it is easy to see how her huge online presence can have a positive impact to incite change. This is an issue we should all pay attention to, considering we are using these products on a day to day basis. Next time you buy a new product, remember Kourtney’s work and do some research on what exactly you’re putting on your face.
