Mardi Gras. It’s been the talk of the town since August, and we’ve finally made it through the days of parades and costumes and for some, a LOT of alcohol. Luckily for us Tulanians, however, we have five more days of break to relax and recharge before starting up classes again. Here are some of the best, simple tips to help make the most of your spring break and bring your body back to life.

1. Lemon in Your Water

This is hands down one of the easiest ways to detoxify over break. Lemon juice aids the liver in flushing out toxins from your body, and after overindulging in alcohol and fatty foods this festival season, it can be essential in helping to prevent those toxins from reabsorbing into your body.

2. Turmeric and Honey Face Mask

Glitter, makeup, and sweat, combined with your overly stressed liver, may leave your skin suffering after all the Mardi Gras festivities. This quick and easy face mask can give your skin the TLC it deserves, and help reduce any pimples that may have joined you along the course of the week. Turmeric is a bright orange spice with anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties. Basically, it’s a miracle spice. Mixed with honey, which is antibacterial and moisturizing, you will be on the road to glowing skin in no time. Mix a half teaspoon of turmeric with a tablespoon of honey and spread evenly over your face.

3. Superfoods!

Below are seven superfoods to consider incorporating into your diet that are detoxifying, anti-inflammatory, and energizing. .

  • Dark leafy greens like kale, spinach, and arugula.
  • Beets
  • Garlic/Onions (100% worth the bad breath)
  • Ginger

This may seem obvious, but sleep is the most important remedy in bringing your body back to life. Especially after Mardi Gras, when festivities may get in the way of a good night’s rest, getting a solid 7-9 hours will make all the difference over break. Though naps are good for recharging during the day, it’s most beneficial to try to do your sleeping at night and let your body repair itself.
