The wait is finally over: spring is officially upon us. However, it can sometimes feel like an endless summer here in New Orleans. The bits and pieces of spring we experience before the blazing heat returns are always something to look forward to. Being from Boston, I find myself missing the regular change of the seasons. I miss the scarves and chunky sweaters of fall and the light cardigans to shield the breeze of early spring, and I’m sure the large chunk of students from the northeast can attest to this feeling. While it’s amazing to go to college in a state that feels like a tropical vacation the majority of the time, it’s also shown me how much I take the four seasons for granted. I’ve learned to savor the few weeks when the sun isn’t beating down on us.
With spring on my mind lately, I’ve been thinking about the stylistic choices I can make for these upcoming months, along with ways to elevate my personal style while staying true to myself. I want to avoid hopping onto trends and fads like I have in the past and develop a capsule wardrobe with unique, high-quality pieces. Over the past few years of my personal style journey, I’ve realized that I must ask myself two crucial questions: “Realistically, how many times will I wear this?” and “Will I cringe at this by the next spring season?” It’s hard to make conscientious purchases in a fast fashion era where trends cycle faster than we can wrap our heads around. So, with Pinterest as my ever-helpful tool, I’ve created a mood board with some of the pieces I’ve been looking at in anticipation of springtime. Light and airy dresses, knits for the cooler days, classy ballet flats, and capri pants (some may find this questionable) have been on my mind. Spring is a time of new beginnings, and I plan to reflect this sense of renewal in my wardrobe.
