Did I just see a leaf fall? Despite the temperature here in Nola stubbornly staying within the 80s, fall is back and it’s time to start dressing like it. Even though we may not be able to wear trenches or sweaters–even tackling jeans can be hard–there are still many ways we can utilize our wardrobes to be the best dressed this fall despite the heat.Â
Getting Back to the BasicsÂ

This fall, the foundations for the start of an outfit are good basics. Black and white t-shirts are a necessity for building the right canvas. I recommend the Artizia Soft Feels All-Time T-Shirt or the Skims Shrunken T-Shirt. Both options sit at the perfect length on your hips and can easily be dressed up or down. Another key to mastering the perfect fall base in warmer weather is what I like to call the two-thirds rule: you never want to have more than two-thirds of your body covered. Ideal combinations when following my rule are 1) shorts or a skirt paired with a long sleeve top or sweater, and 2) full length bottoms or capris paired with a t-shirt or tank top. Playing with proportions allows your clothes to feel more breathable in the heat. Keep things simple so you can really have fun with the interesting part… accessorizing! When selecting a top and bottom, opting for a monochromatic outfit is a chic way to allow accessories to elevate your base.Â
It’s All About Accessories

Browns are going to be your best friend this season, and textures are going to be your go-to elevating accent. Since we can’t layer up with scarves and jackets, we have to add extra accessories. This season we will be seeing suede, brown leather, and animal fur bags everywhere. Right now, I am obsessed with the recently released brown suede Mini Franca Bag by Gimaguas. Not your vibe? Try Staud’s beautiful Romeo Faux Fur Bag in Espresso by Staud to add a playful dimension to your outfit without adding actual weight to your base.Â
Another print we all have to tap into is tortoise anything! Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy is the OG inspiration for all things tortoise, often having been seen in the infamous C.O. Bigelow headband pictured above. This fall I think everyone should have fun experimenting with different materials and prints when it comes to belts, bags, jewelry, glasses, and shoes.
More Makeup!

Just like our outfits, our makeup can reflect the season. An intriguing way to embrace autumn is to use the colors that embody the season of autumn. I would stick to the color palette of warm browns, toasted oranges, and moody reds. We’re shifting to a bronzy makeup look with an emphasis on the eyes and the lips.Â
The best way to achieve this look is by using a diverse palette. I recommend Dior’s Backstage Palette in Nude Essentials or the Makeup by Mario’s Master Mattes: The Original. Any palette with a wide range of browns and nudes will be essential this fall. For lips, I recently purchased Saie’s new Beauty Lip Liner in the shade Tease and have been finding myself reaching for it all the time–whether for class or a night out. A brown lip is a good way to incorporate this season’s staple color into your makeup look. Makeup Forever’s Artist Color Pencil in Anywhere Caffeine pairs perfectly with any lip gloss, from deep brown to light pink! Makeup is an easy way to get creative with the unique color palette of fall!
