Whether you’re staying in New Orleans, backpacking through Europe, or relaxing in clear tropical waters this summer, it is important to take care of your skin. These skincare products are perfect for adapting your skin needs to humid climates to ensure that you look your best this summer.
- Sunscreen
Perhaps the most essential product for the summer, sunscreen is a must. It is so important to protect your skin from sun rash, sun burns, blistering, and dangerous sunspots. Contrary to popular belief, wearing sunscreen does not stop you from getting a tan; it only protects your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. One thing that can be bothersome is how heavy, greasy, and thick sunscreen sometimes feels. It is best to find a sunscreen that goes on smoothly, doesn’t feel sticky, and moisturizes your skin (my personal favorite is Neutrogena). This way, you’ll feel light and cool instead of sticky and shiny.
- Anti-Frizz Products
Nothing is worse than getting out of the shower, letting your hair dry, and as soon as you step outside, having instant frizz. In tropical, humid conditions my hair refuses to stay straight and I feel like I need to constantly be styling it to keep it in check. Ouai Anti Frizz Smoothing Sheets work like dryer sheets to remove static from hair and tame the unruly fly-aways. You simply press it from the roots of your hair down to the ends and the frizz disappears! You also can apply a small drop of argan or moroccan oil to keep small fly-aways weighed down.
- Tinted Moisturizer and Powder
The biggest step to achieving healthy, fresh skin this summer is to keep it clean and not pile on makeup like you would when going out during the year. Skip the thick, greasy foundation and use a tinted moisturizer instead to keep skin smooth and hydrated after a day in the sun. For more coverage, set your moisturizer with a tinted powder. The powder is guaranteed to keep your face matte, protected, and show off your natural beauty without covering up the cute freckles you’ve accumulated from a day at the beach.
- Eye Brightener
During the summer, I like to go for a more natural look that cleans up blemishes on my face but doesn’t hide my natural features. It is important for me to maintain a look that makes me appear awake and active. I achieve this by applying an eye brightener under my eyes to hide any dark circles that make me look sleepy and dull.
- Eyebrow Gel
If you do choose to wear makeup, it’s best not to cake on heavy eye makeup to maintain a more natural look. Using a brow gel will ensure your brows don’t stray while maintaining a light, natural look. If you’re really feeling like going au natural this summer, choose a clear brow gel to accentuate what you’ve already got.
- Rosie Cheeks and Tinted Lips
This product from Benefit will give you a sun kissed look to go from a day at the beach to night on the town. This 2-in-1 product can be applied to both your cheeks and your lips to stain them with a pop of color.
- After Sun Mist
Add moisture and relief after being in the sun by spritzing an After Sun mist like that from Herbivore Botanicals. Its combination of aloe vera and lavender will make your skin feel cool and refreshed rather than tight and hot. Bonus: it is also vegan, gluten-free, cruelty-free, silicone-free, fragrance-free, and made without artificial ingredients!
