Looking for a study break? Fall is coming quickly, especially with the winds from the “hurricane” this past month. The perfect solution is a chill night in: getting into comfy pajamas, grabbing some snacks and candy and putting on a classic Fall movie. Here are some of the best movies to watch throughout the Fall season:
Harry Potter

Any of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter movies are a perfect watch for Fall. A little spooky with a side of nostalgia, these films were my childhood as I am sure they were for many students. My personal favorite is the 4th movie, with all the action of the Goblet of Fire competition. I am sure many fans will dress up as one of the characters for Halloween as well—I remember dressing as Hermione Granger one year. This Fall is the ideal season for Harry Potter fans to spend a night in and pick their favorite movie from the series to watch.
Coraline

While Coraline scares some young viewers, it is such a fun and intriguing movie to watch with friends. Living in a new home for a while sounds exciting and adventurous, and this movie explores an alternate universe with a scary “other mother.” Who would want to sew buttons in their eyes? Certainly not me. With spooky season upon us, this is the perfect movie for a night in with friends or family. I have also heard whisperings of Coraline being a popular Halloween costume this year, so stay tuned for some blue wigs and black buttons lurking around!
The Nightmare Before Christmas

One of my all-time favorite movies to watch before Halloween is The Nightmare Before Christmas. The love story between Jack and Sally is unbeatable, and the design of the land is beautiful. I remember watching Sally re-sew her arm back on and thinking how much I wish we could heal that quickly! The color and sound elements of this movie are perfect for a night in, especially leading up to Halloween. I will definitely be watching this movie in the coming weeks, and I am looking forward to hearing Jack’s voice as he sings about his boredom of Halloween and his attempt to search for a new holiday.
Knives Out

Knives Out is an exciting and adventure-filled movie to watch with friends. This murder mystery is sure to get people on the edge of their seats on a breezy night in. Even if you aren’t watching this movie for the first time, the twists, secrets and lies are so fun to uncover. The Knives Out’s sequel, Glass Onion, is also a perfect movie for Fall to watch murder mysteries unfold and people’s secrets revealed. I will be sure to watch Knives Out again this Fall, perhaps on a colder night with some blankets and popcorn.
School of Rock

One of my favorite movies I watched when I was younger is School of Rock. Jack Black an incredibly funny actor but he is certainly not qualified to be a teacher. As a tired student, this movie is a fun watch and will surely bring some laughter into a possibly overwhelming day. I love hearing the kids’ voices and their distinct instruments as they go on stage for the Battle of the Bands at the end of the film. The fashion and hairstyles in the characters’ final performance are memorable and definitely make me want to join a band one day.
