As the leaves begin to brown and the anticipated halloweekend creeps upon us, the New Orleans heat remains. That fall vibe we yearn for on the hottest days of summer can be hard to find when the 80- to 90-degree heat dictates our clothing choices. Thankfully, our editors found their favorite beauty routines and fashion brands to help us fall-ify our daily routines, even when Mother Nature still thinks it’s summer.
Alyssa Puccio: College Life Editor
Our College Life editor, Alyssa Puccio, starts her mornings with a pumpkin cold brew from Trader Joe’s. “It’s incredible,” Alyssa tells us. Then, she begins her skincare routine using all of Hailey Bieber’s Rhode skincare products. In the afternoons, Alyssa likes to get outside by taking walks in Audubon Park, and “since it’s still so hot here, I’ve been last-minute tanning.” One of Alyssa’s favorite happy hours is Chais Delachaise, where she enjoys orange wine. Typically, she ends the night watching Pretty Little Liars, “the best fall show,” before bed, she tells us.

Alyssa’s fall clothing staples include her go-to “Brown Jeffrey Campbell platform boots, dark wash denim”, and wearing “jewel tones all fall.” This season, she can’t wait to wear her Anastasia Beverly Hills lip liner in chai, it’s “so good.” She also shared with us some fashion brands she has been loving and recommends us to shop from this fall:
“Gap jeans have been really good this season, Uggs are a classic, check out Blue Dream (local vintage boutique), really cool boots for the fall.”

Aviva Blumenthal: Editor In Chief
Our incredible Editor-in-Chief, Aviva Blumenthal, shared some of her fall staples with us.
“I always love a good cardigan, they are so easy to slip into your bag before class and make any outfit cute and cozy! When I was abroad in Paris last year, I found so many colorful cardigans in little boutiques around the city. They are such a fun way to add a pop of color to colder weather.”

Aviva’s morning starts with a warm, fluffy robe. “My roommate and I have both become addicted to putting on our fluffy robes first thing in the morning. It’s my favorite way to start the day, transitioning from cozy blankets to the kitchen to make coffee. Definitely a staple before a long day of classes!” she tells us. Here are some robes we found so you can have a cozy start to your fall mornings, just like Aviva!

This fall, Aviva cannot wait to use her new favorite eyelash curler. “I am obsessed with curling my eyelashes, so for my birthday a couple of weeks ago, my best friend gifted me the Shiseido eyelash curler. So far, it has been amazing, and it has held my curls despite the NOLA humidity. I would definitely recommend it as a seasonal splurge.”

Maya Verhaal: Graphic Design Director
Our talented Graphic Design Director, Maya Verhaal, shares her favorite fall fashion and beauty staples. Let’s take a look!
“Thrifted sweaters (Thred Up has so many incredible options), Tights, and pleated skirts are staples in fall. Dark blue, brown, and burgundy are colors that truly make fall fashion stand out. Another staple is big jewelry! I get mine from Scandivv and En-route. Nothing like statement pieces to make an outfit.”
Maya prioritizes self-care as she starts every morning taking care of herself by putting on a “sweater because it’s chilly in the dorm” while she gets ready for class. Her beauty routine starts with, of course, skincare. “I use the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser every morning and night; it is my go-to. It removes makeup and is the best for sensitive skin. Smokey eyes are my go-to for fall with lots of brown and gold glitter hues.” Some beauty products Maya cannot wait to use for fall are the “The Hourglass ambient lighting palette is my favorite for fall and, honestly, year-round, although Colorpop and Maybelline have so many affordable and incredible options.”

According to Maya, “Jewelry is the best way to upgrade any outfit. Scandivv and En-route are the best ones. Finding small businesses and shopping at thrift stores both online and locally, are the best ways to get affordable clothing and avoid overconsumption! Design by Si and Thredup are my favorites.”

Evelyn’s skincare routine consists of the “Neutrogena hydro boost moisturizer, Kiehl’s midnight recovery cleansing oil,” and for makeup, her favorite product is the “NYX epic wear eyeliner”. In the fall and nearing winter, Evelyn’s trick to saving her skin from the dry weather is to “double down on moisturizer cause my skin gets far drier in the winter months!”
Alexis Cohen: NOLA 360 Editor
Our NOLA 360 editor, Alexis Cohen, gives us a glimpse into her daily routine, along with the products and wardrobe pieces she will be bringing out this season. Her fall closet consists of “Flannels, jeans, boots, light jackets, cardigans.” Alexis starts her day at the gym or takes a leisurely morning walk, and ends every night in her favorite PJ sets. Alexis is setting the tone this fall with “warm eyeshadows, rosy blush, and shiny lipglosses” while rocking her favorite brands, “Lululemon and Brandy Melville.”
Lila Kline: Fashion and Beauty Editor
As the Fashion and Beauty editor, I wanted to share a couple of my must-haves this season. My morning ritual begins with making matcha for my roommate and me. I love the Chamberlain Coffee matcha powder paired with Chobani’s vanilla creamer. Then, for skincare, I spray my face with the Tower 28 SOS facial spray, which beats the acne before it shows up uninvited and keeps my pores clean. I also use my Rhode Glazing Milk toner. For makeup, my all-time favorites are the Maybelline Waterproof Falsies mascara and the Merit concealer. At night, I wind down with some hot peppermint tea and typically the Caudalie face mask. This past month, I have been buying only secondhand, and I plan to maintain this habit for as long as possible. My favorite online secondhand stores are Depop, Grailed, Vinted, and Poshmark. However, brands like With Jéan, Rélasation Par, Frankies Bikinis, and Jaded London are some I can’t live without.
It’s officially time to make your pumpkin cold brews, or start your mornings with your coziest robe, digging through your closet to find jewel tones, elevating your looks with bold jewelry, thrifting in your favorite leather jacket, adding a rosy blush and warm eyeshadows to your makeup looks, and winding down the night with hot tea and a cute PJ set. From the Crescent to you, we hope you feel a cool breeze soon and find some of your new fall favorites.
