This playlist is a love letter to my solo walks in Audubon Park. This semester especially, I haveĀ taken advantageĀ of the beautiful nature that we have in the backyard of our campus. In my experience, a walk alone in the park with my favorite music blasting in my ears is the best way to brighten upĀ the day.Ā Taking a break from schoolwork, admiringĀ nature andĀ people watchingĀ neverĀ failĀ to sparkĀ joy for me.Ā IĀ chose a few of my favorite songsĀ from my playlistĀ that putsĀ a pep in myĀ step.Ā Ā 

Ā Dance Yourself CleanĀ –Ā LCD Soundsystem

I usually start off my walk with this tune. This song starts slowĀ and calm, easing me into my walk, but aboutĀ one thirdĀ through,Ā the melodyĀ changes.Ā The beat becomes faster and funkier, and IĀ fight against the urge to break into a dance.Ā The songĀ neverĀ failsĀ to putĀ me inĀ a good mood at the beginning of my walk.Ā 

Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)Ā – Arcade Fire

AfterĀ starting with a song that boosts my mood,Ā I like toĀ play aĀ song that inspires a sense of awe. This songĀ is melodicĀ andĀ listening to the lyrics gives me more appreciation for the natureĀ thatĀ surrounds me.Ā Ā 

Ā Fifty-fifty ClownĀ –Ā Cocteau TwinsĀ Ā 

This song also tends to inspire some awe and inspiration in me. The surreal sound and impossible-to-understand lyricsĀ allowĀ me to focusĀ on my own thoughtsĀ rather than interpret the words I hear.Ā Like theĀ previousĀ song, this tune gives me a strong appreciation forĀ the nature that surrounds me.Ā Ā 

Ā Big Time Sensuality – BjƶrkĀ 

This is another song in which I have to actively fight the urge to dance. Björk has a unique voice that is a little strange and magical. The song makes me feel a little better about the state of the world and all the creativity people have to offer.  

Ā Sugar Water – Cibo Matto

I like to listen to this song when I want to cool off for a momentĀ or take a shortĀ breakĀ on a bench.Ā It’sĀ slower than the restĀ of these songsĀ and puts me in a more relaxed mood.Ā It is a little bit haunting andĀ surrealĀ butĀ itĀ takes my mind off of all the stress of a busy day.Ā ItĀ is a great song to end aĀ refreshingĀ walk.Ā Ā 

IĀ cannot recommend taking a walk alone in AudubonĀ ParkĀ enough. The weather has been beautiful lately, and duringĀ midtermĀ season, itĀ can helpĀ to blow off aĀ little steam. Taking walks with your friends is a blast, but walking alone isĀ a great wayĀ toĀ processĀ yourĀ thoughts andĀ prioritizeĀ both your physical and emotional well-being.Ā Ā
