Looking for unforgettable brunch, world-class coffee, and an atmosphere that feels both elevated and inviting? Bearcat delivers all that and more. Easily my favorite restaurant in New Orleans, Bearcat takes brunch to a whole new level.
With two vibrant locations – Uptown on Jena Street and Downtown on Carondelet Street – and even a bakery around the corner from their CBD spot serving fresh breads, pastries, and the full Bearcat menu.
At the heart of it all are owner James and Chef Cat, the duo behind Bearcat’s success. James runs the restaurants with a rare combination of warmth, precision, and genuine hospitality. The staff reflect that same energy – every server truly cares about your experience and makes sure each meal feels personal. That alone elevates the entire dining experience. Meanwhile, Chef Cat brings the vision to life in the kitchen, crafting dishes that are both comforting and creative. Together, they’re built something truly special
Bearcat’s menu reflects the best of both worlds. One side features breakfast, the other lunch, and everything is cleverly divided into “Good Cat” and “Bad Cat” to easily find what you’re craving. Whether it’s a light salad or hearty egg sandwich this layout makes ordering simple and fun.
Their drink selection is unmatched. Each morning, they bottle their own lemonades, teas, and coffees in every flavor imaginable. My personal favorite drink bottle is the chai with almond milk – it’s perfectly spiced with cinnamon without being overpowering. The strawberry lemonade is another must-try: refreshing, sweet, and ideal for a hot New Orleans day. You can also order any drink fresh over pebble ice (which, in my opinion, makes everything better). My go-to order is a vanilla iced latte with almond milk – their vanilla syrup is made from real vanilla beans, giving it a rich, natural flavor. Honestly, it might be my favorite coffee in the world.

Breakfast at Bearcat is on another level. My top pick is the Breakfast Club Sandwich: fresh sourdough, eggs any style, bacon, avocado, tomato, and cheese. The crunch of the bread with the creaminess of the eggs and avocado makes the dish a total home run. It’s served with their famous breakfast potatoes – crispy, perfectly seasoned, and utterly addictive.

The seasonal pancakes are always a hit, too. My favorites being the bananas foster and the cinnamon roll (which they’re serving up right now!). Even the classic pancakes are perfectly buttery with a hint of crispiness on edges. For those with dietary restrictions, they even offer paleo and vegan pancakes that are just delicious.

If you’re in the mood for something more adventurous, try their crab or lobster scrambles. I was skeptical at first, but the combination of seafood and eggs was surprisingly fantastic – it completely changed how I think about breakfast.
Lunch is equally impressive. Every starter is crave-worthy, but the buffalo cauliflower and vegan queso are standouts. My favorite lunch entree is the Chicken Sumas – tender grilled chicken served with hummus and grilled vegetables. The flavors are balanced, bold, and deeply satisfying.
James and Chef Cat have built more than a restaurant – they’ve built a community. Every detail, from the plating to the service, reflects their shared commitment to genuine hospitality and thoughtfully crafted food. Everything at Bearcat feels both polished and personal.
If you’re looking for a brunch spot with incredible food, excellent coffee, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, Bearcat should be at the very top of your list!
