This playlist is a love letter to my solo walks in Audubon Park. This semester especially, I have taken advantage of the beautiful nature that we have in the backyard of our campus. In my experience, a walk alone in the park with my favorite music blasting in my ears is the best way to brighten up the day. Taking a break from schoolwork, admiring nature and people watching never fail to spark joy for me. I chose a few of my favorite songs from my playlist that puts a pep in my step. <span data-ccp-props="{";201341983";:0,";335559740";:480}">

Dance Yourself Clean – LCD Soundsystem

I usually start off my walk with this tune. This song starts slow and calm, easing me into my walk, but about one third through, the melody changes. The beat becomes faster and funkier, and I fight against the urge to break into a dance. The song never fails to put me in a good mood at the beginning of my walk.<span data-ccp-props="{";201341983";:0,";335559740";:480}">

Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) – Arcade Fire

After starting with a song that boosts my mood, I like to play a song that inspires a sense of awe. This song is melodic and listening to the lyrics gives me more appreciation for the nature that surrounds me. <span data-ccp-props="{";201341983";:0,";335559740";:480}">

<span data-ccp-props="{";201341983";:0,";335559740";:480}"> Fifty-fifty Clown – Cocteau Twins <span data-ccp-props="{";201341983";:0,";335559740";:480}">

This song also tends to inspire some awe and inspiration in me. The surreal sound and impossible-to-understand lyrics allow me to focus on my own thoughts rather than interpret the words I hear. Like the previous song, this tune gives me a strong appreciation for the nature that surrounds me. <span data-ccp-props="{";201341983";:0,";335559740";:480}">

<span data-ccp-props="{";201341983";:0,";335559740";:480}"> Big Time Sensuality – Björk<span data-ccp-props="{";201341983";:0,";335559740";:480}">

This is another song in which I have to actively fight the urge to dance. Björk has a unique voice that is a little strange and magical. The song makes me feel a little better about the state of the world and all the creativity people have to offer. <span data-ccp-props="{";201341983";:0,";335559740";:480}">

Sugar Water – Cibo Matto

I like to listen to this song when I want to cool off for a moment or take a short break on a bench. It’s slower than the rest of these songs and puts me in a more relaxed mood. It is a little bit haunting and surreal but it takes my mind off of all the stress of a busy day. It is a great song to end a refreshing walk. <span data-ccp-props="{";201341983";:0,";335559740";:480}">

I cannot recommend taking a walk alone in Audubon Park enough. The weather has been beautiful lately, and during midterm season, it can help to blow off a little steam. Taking walks with your friends is a blast, but walking alone is a great way to process your thoughts and prioritize both your physical and emotional well-being. <span data-ccp-props="{";134233117";:false,";134233118";:false,";201341983";:0,";335551550";:1,";335551620";:1,";335559685";:0,";335559737";:0,";335559738";:0,";335559739";:160,";335559740";:480}">
