Guy’s Po-boys

A New Orleans staple, and it’s easy to see why. Located on Magazine Street, Guy’s Poboys offers excellent food and a top-tier ambience. They always fry their shrimp and catfish to perfection. The bread is fantastic, and the sandwich is well dressed. Not to mention, they don’t skimp out on the portions. If fish isn’t your thing, they have plenty of other options to fit your desires. The best part about Guy’s is the people. Every time I go in, everyone is telling stories to one another. It’s so easy to jump into the conversation as well. If you want a phenomenal sandwich and an overall great experience, head down to Magazine St. and try Guy’s Poboys.

Domilise’s Po-Boy and Bar

Moving from one New Orleans mainstay to another, Domelise’s on Annunciation St. knows how to make a po’ boy. They dress the sandwich with mayonnaise, remoulade, and hot sauce, making for an incredible combination of flavors. Each bite of the sandwich tastes completely new. The fried oyster po’boy is immaculate, and that is coming from someone who does not even like oysters. For me, the fried shrimp po’boy is the best I have had to date. Only a 15-minute drive, and if you go on any Tuesday or Thursday, you get 20% off your sandwich for being a Tulane student.

Adam’s Street Grocery and Deli

If you are looking for a more walkable place, look no further than Adam’s Street Grocery and Deli, just a 15-minute walk from campus, where you can enjoy a genuinely exceptional po’boy. I got the hot sausage, and it was top-notch with a real flair of spice. Reasonably priced and quickly made, you will not be disappointed with your sandwich.

Zara’s Lil Giant Supermarket

Not only is Zara’s Lil’ Giant Supermarket an excellent name for a store, but it also has some phenomenal po’boys. Their sign calls their po’boys “overstuffed”, and while I believe there is no such thing as an overstuffed po’boy, Zara’s gets pretty close to it. I had the fried shrimp po’boy, and it is my firm belief that for every centimeter of bread, there was a piece of shrimp to accompany it. I promise that when you finish eating, your hunger will be satiated. The store is on Prytania Street, making it a pretty far walk from campus. Luckily, it is on DoorDash, so you can get it delivered straight to your dorm. The convenience, taste, and size of the sandwich make Zara an easy choice for this list.

Parasol’s

Simply put, they have a fantastic roast beef po’boy. As someone who doesn’t like roast beef, I was stunned by how good the sandwich was. It was perfectly seasoned, well-dressed, and the pickles made it impossible to leave off the list. It’s located in the Irish Channel, making it a pretty far walk from campus. However, if you are ever in the area, the atmosphere in the bar is excellent, and the restaurant has a cool, old-fashioned look. To me, Parasol’s is a great place to visit and get a po’boy.
