Overwhelmed with exams and papers? A little time in nature might be exactly what your mind needs. Taking a stroll in Audubon Park under the canopy of luscious trees is the perfect way to regulate your nervous system! Of the 2,000 trees located in the park, over half of them are native live oaks.

According to the Audubon Nature Institute, the canopy has many benefits to the quality of life within the surrounding environment. The trees improve air quality, absorb rainwater, and provide vital habitats for wildlife. One full-grown live oak tree intercepts around 900 cubic feet of stormwater, eradicates six pounds of pollutants, and stores 225 pounds of carbon.

Not only are live oaks beneficial for the environment, but they also hold a captivating energy within them. The Spanish moss draping over the gnarled branches adds to the rich greenery, creating a mystical and romantic atmosphere. Their resilience has allowed them to become a symbol of strength – one that reflects the spirit of New Orleans itself.

With Audubon Park so close to campus, it’s easy to take advantage of this natural oasis. Go for a run, walk, or even bring your notes with you to study under one of these magnificent trees – your body and mind will thank you.
