Rollin’ its Way Onto Campus: A New Restaurant Brings Healthy Options to Tulane

Located where Le Gourmet used to be,
Rollin’ N’ Bowlin’ (RnB) is an amazing addition to Tulane’s campus that offers
a wide variety of healthy foods. Sophia Karbowski and Austin Patry were
Entrepreneurial Management students at Texas Christian University when they
came up with the idea for RnB. They saw the need for healthy options on college
campuses and decided to bring the business to universities all over the
country.

“Everyone was saying, ‘you know
there are no healthy options near campus that are walkable and genuinely
healthy’ so we decided to do something about it,” said Patry. “We just wanted
to be wholesome people selling healthy food.”

The friendly staff and plethora of healthy options make Rollin’ N’ Bowlin’ the perfect place to stop when you need a pick-me-up during the school day. RnB offers smoothies, acai bowls, and a variety of toasts. There are fruity smoothies, green and veggie-filled smoothies, and even a smoothie that has coffee in it! RnB also offers acai, pitaya, and vegetable-based smoothie bowls that are topped with fruit and granola. One of my favorite items is the avocado toast, which is loaded with delicious, savory toppings. Although if you have a sweet tooth, they also have an option of toast topped with peanut butter, bananas, cinnamon, and honey. You can also ask for any alterations or substitutions, and they even have gluten free bread!

Personal & Friend Favorites:

Guac My World Smoothie

Banana Stand Smoothie (Adding peanut
butter is really delicious!)

Super Monkey Bowl

Nuts for Nanners Toast (You can ask
for almond butter instead of peanut butter)

Avocado Caprese Toast

What I love most about Rollin’ N’ Bowlin’ is that there are also a ton of healthy snack options other than the prepared foods. “The idea behind that is just to have something quick to grab because people want to be in and out,” said Patry. “They want to bring stuff back to their dorm. It’s food that’s still healthy and that we genuinely like.” This is really important for me because I love having healthy snacks in my room at all times, in order to avoid unhealthy snacking when I get hungry. Instead of having to go to Whole Foods to buy expensive snacks, I can pick up some of my favorites from RnB, and I can even do it with Wavebucks! Some of my favorites include Perfect bars, GoMacro bars, Hope Hummus with Simple Mills crackers, Justin’s Peanut Butter packets, and Skinny Pop.

In my opinion, there is definitely a lack of healthy options at Tulane, which I think this is true of most college campuses. Offering accessible, healthy foods for students is so important and Austin agrees.

“If you talk to any given student at any campus they often complain about the lack of options,” Patry said. “I don’t necessarily think it’s the dining halls’ fault… but our generation is naturally healthier. We want to eat healthy things and I just don’t think that was the case before. A lot of attractive options, like Chick-Fil-A or those kinds of fast food restaurants that are on campuses, just aren’t as attractive anymore. There’s even a lot of data to back it up. 63% of college students aren’t eating the recommended fruits and vegetables each day, and then combine that with how many people are trying to incorporate plant-based foods into their diet.”

Next time you’re hungry and craving something healthy, head over to Rollin’ N’ Bowlin’ to enjoy a satisfying smoothie, bowl, toast, or even just a quick snack!

Cover Photo:
