Anthony Vaccarello of Saint Laurent brought the Wild West, Marrakech, and the Left Bank to New York (technically New Jersey) in the designer’s debut menswear show for SS19. Today, we examine some of the best looks that graced the legendary Parisian staple since Hedi Slimane’s departure.

First up, a reworked leather trimmed version of the iconic Le Smoking Jacket first designed by Yves himself, paired with a paper-thin cheetah print shirt and matching scarf. On the bottom, a pair of black skinny jeans serves as the cornerstone to both the show and the label. The fluidity of the shirt combined with sharp edges of the jacket is a match made in heaven that screams hedonism.

Consolidating the gender fluidity of contemporary Saint Laurent, Kaia Gerber rocked the menswear runway with a black and gold bomber on top of a simple yet form fitting blouse. Cowboy boots and a python belt add western flair to the signature monochrome color palette.

The Wild West comes together effortlessly with the biker staples in this look. The black and red diamonds make the often-bland leather jacket much more interesting. We see the denim shirt return yet again for another season, slightly distressed and comfortably tucked under the moto-inspired belt.

And my favorite look from the show: Moroccan fantasy drapes over the modern Saint Laurent uniform of denim shirt and black jeans. Red sequins look downright sinful with the tuxedo lapel.

The shiny disco Le Smoking recalls Slimane’s music project with Daft Punk, a glam rock must have for robots or human.
