<p>Most will agree that living in New Orleans is unlike living anywhere else, and not just because we celebrate Mardi Gras or eat crawfish. Those who really know New Orleans know that this place is, to put it bluntly, wild. In a city where a real NOLAReady alert was once about “animal remains” (a shark? Or was it a cow?) being spilled all over Tchoupitoulas, you have to be able to laugh at yourself to make it here. That’s why I wholeheartedly believe that the New Orleans meme accounts completely outdo any other city’s comparable accounts. Here are some of my favorite moments of pure madness that the NOLA meme scene has gotten me through.</p>
<p><strong>The Superdome being renamed. And then catching on fire.</strong></p>
<p>It seems as though the Superdome has been having an allergic reaction to its name change. After picking up a sponsorship from Caesar’s Entertainment, the Superdome literally caught on fire. Apparently, it’s now losing letters. If it wasn’t enough for you to laugh about the absurdity of a Las Vegas hotel sponsoring a New Orleans football stadium, don’t fret, because the Superdome is the Instagram content machine that keeps on giving.</p>

<p><strong>The guts on Tchoup, and other views from the 504 streets.</strong></p>
<p>If you were too busy enjoying Hot Vax Summer to keep tabs on NOLA news, you may have missed the fact that the Irish Channel started to reek after animal remains splattered across Tchoupitoulas. Some hypothesized it was a whale, some said it was a shark, and the eventual consensus said, “most likely a cow.” However, if you can believe it, this is hardly the craziest thing to happen to the streets here. Take, for instance, the time Freret fell victim to a green Jeep and (allegedly, according to Dat Dog) a ton of whippets. There is an entire Instagram account (@lookatthisfuckinstreet) whose handle speaks for itself.</p>

<p><strong>Entergy being Entergy.</strong></p>
<p>When you pay your first Entergy bill, I firmly believe a little piece of dignity dies inside of you. Getting exorbitantly charged for electricity yet still experiencing blackouts whenever there is a storm has built “resilience” in the New Orleans population. Or at least that’s what city officials and President Fitts say to us, so we don’t lose our minds over it. There really remains no other choice but to laugh about it from time to time, because if you don’t laugh, you will cry.</p>
