Trying out for club soccer at Tulane was the best decision I have made during my college experience so far. I have been playing soccer my entire life, and anyone who knows me knows how obsessed I am with the game. Playing goalkeeper for most of my athletic career has shaped me into a more confident athlete and individual. The more I played, the more I fell in love with the game. Every mistake I have made has motivated me to face my weaknesses and try harder the next time. I remember the feeling of playing in my last high school varsity soccer game of senior year: the moment that final whistle blew, I realized that no matter where I ended up at college, I was going to continue playing the sport I love.

I remember attending the club fair as a freshman, approaching the woman’s club soccer table and introducing myself to the captains. I was determined to attend the first tryouts of the season. Being a freshman, I thought I would be intimidated, but the team and coach were immediately so welcoming.

Within the first few weeks of school, I was already road tripping to Texas for league games. The first game I played for Tulane was at the University of Texas at Austin. I hadn’t played in a competitive game since high school soccer, so I felt some nerves catching up to me. As I stood on the field, playing goalkeeper for this new team, I realized how excited I was to be playing again. I already felt that I was part of a family, a group of girls who would always have my back.

I encourage any athlete who is not currently playing a sport at Tulane to try out for a club team. Even if you’re nervous it won’t be like how it was in high school, give it a shot anyway. As a junior at Tulane, and now the Vice President of Tulane Woman’s Club Soccer, I cannot express how much of a positive impact this team has made on my college experience, and it will for you too!
