By now, most of you should be no stranger to Off-White’s meteoric rise to fame and its satirical humor grounded on industrialism. One of the most influential collaborations in recent years was its fabled “The Ten” collection with Nike, where Virgil Abloh updated smash-hitters according to his 3% rule. Classics reimagined is always a card in the fashion playbook that tends to resonate well with the public. However, repetition seems to always be a problem with hype drops like Yeezys or “The Ten.” We’re tired of the same shoes over and over again just in different colors. Need something new? Enter Sacai’s Chitose Abe and synthetic unification.

What’s achieved by the LDV Waffle Daybreak and Blazer Dunk High here give a glimpse of Sacai’s designs for those that are unfamiliar: transfiguration from two to one at its finest. From four silhouettes that lacked mainstream exposure for some time now came two stunning examples of dimensional hybrids. These are by far some of the most striking shoes I have seen in a very long time. From whatever angle of judgment, be it material, color, or shape, the execution is flawless and refreshing. Not to mention, both models have received monochromatic updates at the Paris Menswear Show for Fall 2019. New details now include removable fur on the LDV Waffle Daybreak and a tongue zipper on the Blazer Dunk High. They also didn’t fail to impress on the runway as they delivered the message of togetherness with Abe’s collection.

The high-end sneaker trend so far is heavy with plays on dimensions, evident on the new Maison Margiela Spliced Sneakers and Raf Simons’ trompe l’oeil (makes 2D looks 3D) painted Stan Smiths. On the streetwear side, Kanye’s Yeezys also show no signs for stopping with highly anticipated drops coming up. Regardless of where 2019 will take sneakers to, the Sacai Nikes are undoubtedly going to be one of, if not the best, collaborations of this year. Check back with The Crescent as we keep you posted on release info and prices.
